Hello.
My name is Solveig.
I just got my innards and hair last night. I dreamed of being a redhead, but short of having to have a real honest to goodness dye job, that wasn't going to happen. I'm actually sort of glad I didn't have to settle for lavender hair. It was close. I don't mind being a Scandinavian blond. Just don't tell me any blond jokes. I'm actually very intelligent.
Now that all my parts are in order, I can concentrate on finding a way to stowaway to Iceland. I have a mission.
You see, the love of my life, Lars, was separated from me when I was just a pile of spindrift scraps. How I miss him. I think we might have some kind of an Icelandic connection, and I intend to find out. Eeep! The plane leaves in less than three weeks!!! And somehow, I'm going to manage to be on it.
Please note: I'm wearing a wedding cap!!!
Hey, a girl can dream, right?
Ast,
Solveig
(I'm practicing my Icelandic!!)
So cute! Background on the wedding cap please?

Are you going to Iceland? A trip there was on my list for years and years and I finally convinced my husband to go. We spent two weeks there in August. It was amazing! You'll love it, I hope. I'm actually toying around with a solo trip back next year. I've found some really interesting sheep/knitting/hiking themed excursions. Let me know if you want any tips.
Solveig is adorable.

My Dearest Solveig, I have dreamed of you for almost a year! I have a photography trip scheduled to Iceland in about three weeks myself. My camera and I live to capture your likeness! I have reserved a space in a brand new camera backpack. Please, please find a way to travel to Iceland!
Telja klukkustundirnar,
Lars

oh, my dear dear dear Lars!!! You are so silly!!!! We must still count days before we count hours!!!! I, too, hope to hitch a ride to Iceland in a backpack, although I'm not sure it will also hold a camera. I've ensconced myself in the ever-growing pile of subzero clothes. These crazy Southern Americans. We must teach them how to enjoy our crisp, invigorating climate, hey?
I hope you don't think I'm too forward...
Alla Mina ast,
Solveig

Oh, my friend.....I'm VERY nervous about meeting Lars. But, he's written to me and he seems like a very very kind and gentle person. I'm just a wee bit concerned that my foray to the homeland smushed into a backpack might mess up my golden locks!!! C'est la vie!!!

Oh, yes....please. Any yarn store not to miss in Reykjavik? We'll have a couple extra days at the end of the workshop. Tried and true referrals are ALWAYS welcomed!!! Thank you!

hee hee....the pattern came with it. And....I knit Lars and gave him to my friend from Austin TX who I think will be hauling him to Iceland with her so they can meet. And needless to say....Solveig will be going home with her!!! (More room in my suitcase going home!!!)

Oh Geez, I didn't know that was part of the plan! I thought Lars was hitching home with you! But I'm fine by the plan. If they get squidged, I can always add stuffing! Dana is anxious to haunt yarn shops, so could you please share with me, since we are going a couple of days early?!

You know, I looked at some yarn in the guild shop in the touristy area of Reykjavik but it was pretty pricey so it stayed in the shop. What I really loved was the yarn I found in supermarkets. Netto had a decent, if limited supply but Hagkaup had a big selection. It is not for the tourist market and more like what an Icelandic knitter would use. But it's not all 'made in Iceland' if that's what you're looking for. I got some nice, everyday sock yarn, not fancy but lasting.
