We got snow. And ice. And COLD.
And it totally 'counted'. (If no sign of grass is visible...it counts as a real snowfall.) We measured about 8" in the end. Temps dipped into the single digits. It totally 'counted'.
Everything shut up and closed down all over town. Schools were closed all week, including the community college where I do what hubby tongue-in-cheek refers to as my 'post-graduate work in photography'.
Did you know that bubbles freeze in single digit temps?
(Bubble-soaked wet fingers also freeze in single digit temps. The tutorial failed to mention that.)
I need a good snowfall every once in a while. A little 'Buffalo, NY' lingers in my soul, I guess. And you really must be quick in enjoying it when it comes, because....
it's going to be in the 60s today....
and we're in the midst of a massive meltdown.
Of course, there was also knitting.
Antarktis is finished. (Antarktis, why are you blurry? I'm not giving you a retake, sorry.)
A little lace, a lot of garter stitch. It also left a nice little ball of leftovers to be added to the mitered square blanket, which was the reason it got knit in the first place. Win-win. And another win. It will go in the gifts-to-be-gifted pile. For once, I'm ahead of the curve in that category.
And shortly after that...off popped...
Liten-kofta, a cute little pattern I found stuck in a pile of what I thought were 'things-I-want-to-knit'. I knit it. Turns out, it was in the 'things-I've-already-knit-and-need-to-refile-the-pattern' pile. Actually, more specifically....according to Ravelry, it was in the 'things-I-started-but-didn't-like-and-frogged' pile. It apparently wasn't working well in lovely, luscious madelinetosh....but turned out quite nicely in yucky 100% baby yarn acrylic (which obviously is a much more practical fiber for a baby knit). Another win-win knit. A little sweater for the 'to-be-gifted' stash....and an acrylic elimination from the stash.
That lovely, luscious madelinetosh? Yep. You guessed it.
It's now the Antarktis.
I love when things work out.
Now that's what I call icicles.
Staying put and knitting sounds like the perfect solution to me.

brr, I love it!! and I love your photos too. I've knit that shawl! Nice pattern - We are having a warm up but I think it's teasing up to the 50's. We will see!

Lovely, lovely knits. I've made two Antarktises (is that right?) and I could see making another. It is such a great pattern for a sign skein of sock yarn. Knitting with acrylic isn't the most fun, but the sweater is darling.
I do envy your snow! We've had so little of it. And no snow days yet!

I get so excited when it snows in the UK and then I see your snow and it makes our snow seem so pathetic, lol. Love the icy bubble!

Two great knits finished...congrats! and to be put in the 'to be gifted pile', brilliant! We had 8-10 in snow yesterday, (much needed-for pete's sake this is Colorado), first big snow of winter. Of course it arrived the day my daughter needed to fly back home to Minneapolis, which was getting significant snow as well. All good, 30 min delay and she is home! Your snow looks beautiful, love those ginormous ice cycles .
Cold, cold here today-baby and I are tucking into couch with knitting and quilts. Enjoy your warm up...

Sometimes both life and knitting have a way of working out. Pretty shawl. I knit that pattern and enjoyed wearing it last summer. Snow and ice - totally counts. We had a few inches here today with blustery winds. The baby sweater is cute too and will be a welcome gift for some little one. You have the best WIP's.

Hey!

The details of your wintery pictures are lovely. I am with you, soft acrylic is good for a baby knit. I'm glad you liked this pattern the second time around. :)

8 inches is most definitely countable snow...and counts enough for shut downs--woo-hoo! Because shut downs = snowed in, which means cozy at home! ;) Those are about the kind of icicles we get here too--crazy long. Shut downs are good for knit and stitch. LOVELY finishes!! That little kofta is sooo sweet! Enjoy the freezes when they happen... Keep warm & cozy! ((HUGS))

Well, well. Haven't you been busy?!? Love that shawl.
Sorry it's so cold. I wouldn't like that. Although it does look quite pretty. Let's meet on a tropical island soon.

Wow 8 inches is a lot for that area! Everything shuts down if it snows 2 inches here. So different than Buffalo where I can remember it snowed in April and everyone just went about their business. Lovely shawl and adorable cardigan. You are so smart to have a gifts-to-be-gifted pile.

Yikes?!? Did I know you were in Buffalo, too? Our stint there was many years ago....we left in the early 80s but I remember those early spring snowfalls well.
