I had high hopes that the Searsport Market Bag was going to be a stash-busting marvel. I was gifted a boat-load of linen a while ago and haven't touched it. (Probably because there was no white, black or grey in the mix!)
A quick recalculation when I discovered this stashed linen was sport-weight and not worsted, and I pretty much happy-danced around the house. I could use up twice the yarn by holding two colours together and would get only a slightly larger bag. It's a bag. Probably destined for the beach and sand....so who cares how large it gets?
Of course, I didn't do a swatch.
And, of course, it got r-e-a-l-l-y large. Like Freddy-size large. He was in love. I wasn't.
Rip.
So, the bag got downsized....which meant, of course, that instead of watching 12 skeins of this linen (6 gold, 6 beige...because I didn't have 12 of any one colour) fly out of the stash bin, I only used 8. I could have done it in a single colour after all.
On the plus side....this ended up being a very quick knit.
The strap is simply threaded through eyelets and tied, so there is no fussy strap-placement and sewing at the end of the project.
And it's cute.
I briefly considered lining it...but then the lace panels couldn't act as a sieve for beach sand, and that's one of the beauties of the bag.
Nice bag! You are so clever!

Well it does look nice, even if your original plan was foiled. :-)

It's almost too cute to be used as a bag for sandy things...

Eel that's a cool project. I love it. What is next for this stash busting spree that you are on?

All's well that ends well! The bag is very cute. And love the lack of fussing with strap attachment.

Your bag is great. At least you got some stash-busting done.

What a great bag. Ah - yes, the beach sometimes seems so far away. Perhaps a lake or a river shore . . .
