Five weeks in to 2017 and I haven't made a single yarn purchase yet. (this might be a record.) Needles, yes. (not my fault---blame security in El Salvador) Yarn, no.
This full version Hansel used some Knit Picks Bare from a purchase last year when I thought I was ready to dive into natural dyeing and didn't, some sock yarn I bought on our holiday trip to Germany (still enough left for socks! I hope---see below) and some Jamieson Spindrift from a 2005 trip to Shetland. Thank goodness yarn doesn't get stale. True to form, none of this yarn was used for it's purchased purpose. (can you tell I'm feeling rather smug using all this stash for what turned out to be a rather substantial shawl!!!)
On the needles now, a Kristen Kapur mystery sock (ssssh. it's a mystery, you can't see it; you wouldn't want to see it anyway. We're on clue 2; I'm still on clue 1) and the hap for Harriet shawl that lost its needles on the trip. I've just about reached the mid-point....and if I was excited about any other project, this would most likely head to time-out. (Maybe I would love it more if it was grey.)
Reading..... Books for Living. From last week. Still liking it.
!LOVING! the cup (and tea) I won a while ago in a drawing at Mysistersknitter. Andi had to send it twice....first time, it decided to return itself to her. Really happy it decided living here was going to be OK.
joining Ginny for yarnalong!
beautiful knitting Steph! I think you need to go yarn shopping ;). I usually don't shop during the winter but come spring time I will buy something.

Lovely projects! I have been considering trying a hap shawl, but haven't actually committed to it yet. Which is your favorite pattern?

I'm one of those people who usually just loves the most recently knit pattern!! But, honestly, this Hansel truly was a lovely design, and the pattern comes with directions for both the full hap that I did and for a half hap. I don't think you could go wrong with this one! Of course, Kate Davies has a whole book of haps.....and I've never knit a pattern of hers that I haven't loved.

Oh I am loving that Hap. Your book looks really interesting...

Your hap is just wonderful! What a big cozy beautiful knit!

Knitting notions/needles and airplane security can be so inconsistent. I cross my fingers each time I travel but never expect too much.
Fun knits in motion. I have to say I'm liking knitting one project at a time, but I do day dream an awful lot!

Oh, my gosh, your Hansel is breathtaking, Steph!! Love it. And, you should feel VERY smug to have purposed these yarns in such a beautiful way. I find it a bit amusing that I'm attracted to all the bright beautiful colors... but, I WEAR and LOVE long term the neutrals. ;) blessings ~ tanna

The Hap is so pretty! I showed a mystery on my blog, now I'm thinking I should have put a spoiler warning or something, eek.

Beautiful projects and good for you for digging into your stash and coming out the other side with a wonderful shawl!! I love the color of yarn you are using for hap shawl, but gray is nice too:)

That Hap shawl is so pretty. Every now and then I think about knitting one. Maybe when I get a few current projects finished I'll dig out some stashed alpaca yarn or maybe Spring will come and I'll go on to something else.

I love the Hansel shawl. I have a kit to make the half one. May take this to the Edinburgh Yarn Festival.....although I'm really dithering about what tour knitting to take, having two long train journeys and a pre festival knit night.

I love your Hansel! (And what a great name!) That is a beautiful pattern, and it seems like a great way to use some stash yarn.

I have a Hansel on the needles and that book is on my hold list at the library! The teacup is beautiful.

Oh- that Hansel is beautiful!!
Yes indeed it is a good thing that yarn doesn't go stale or else I would not have a scrap to knit with. :)
I am so happy that the cup and tea made it's final resting spot.
