How incredibly, ludicrously, insane...two blog sites this weekend (here and here (Nov. 2 post), three if you count this rabbit hole I fell into, all talking about a word/idea/concept I'd never before heard of----yet had spent the entire weekending (let's face it...most of my adult life) striving for. (How's that for 'ending' a sentence with TWO prepositions? Pretty special, huh?)
I've been calling it 'nesting' or 'cozying' my space...but it's more than that. So much more. Who knew? It's hygga.
According to that last rabbit hole (which includes a wonderful short video)...
'In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There's nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are the happiest people in the world?'
So, my weekend?
:: Outdoor vacationing houseplants found new indoor homes.
:: Furniture was rearranged.
:: A wee bit of shopping in small, local boutiques.
:: Friends and family met.
::Yarn wound.
::Knitting, knitting, knitting, knitting, knitting, knitting. (yes, I really DID cast on 6 new projects this week-----and finished 0 WIP.)
::Spent time with another best friend.
:: Baked (and ate) and made the house smell wonderful. Nothing better than the smell of baking gingerbread.
And..
:: cooked.
In my world, brussel sprouts count as hygga, too.
Clearly I live for Hygga...though I NEVER knew it had a name. Now come over so we can Hygga together!! ; )

Knitting is very hygge. As part of my cozying I'm planning a project or two as well. Stand by.. you're my very own International Rescue when (definitely when) I get myself in a mess.
Many thanks for the link :)

I love brussel sprouts immensely!! Love your knitting and of course your knitting buddy. I created a warm atmosphere by rearranging my lanterns :)

The best word ever, only surpassed by the cozying in process. Fantastic post, I just finished reading A Year of Living Danishly and it made me yearn for some hygge!

Heading of your hygga makes me earn for some of my own. With the holidays approaching, I can feel the hygga waiting for me. Happy weekend!

I definitely do roasting vegetables as a cozy seasonal thing. It smells great and warm sthe house up plus hot food...all so good!!!!!
PS I think the sweater and knit starting is a nesting/hygge thing. I am usually not susceptible to startitis but this week?--yes.

That sounds like a whole lot of hygge! We have a word in dutch too that somewhat means the same; 'gezellig'. It refers to a relaxed and cosy atmosphere, or it can refer to people too if they are especially nice to be around :)

Sprouts in my world also counts as hygge.

When we traveled in Copenhagen we learned about hygga and just fell love with the concept. Making a great pot of soup and a crusty loaf of bread to share with family and friends and knitting while it cooks is hygga. Love this time of year!

The Dutch have that word, too: Gezellig.
Speaking of gezellig, we need some gezellig time! Miss you!
