Years ago I grabbed bits and pieces and itty balls of random, mismatched sock yarn (which for some strange reason I CANNOT THROW AWAY) and made fraternal-twin socks. Since there are m-a-n-y bits and pieces and itty balls of sock yarn around here, I was planning on having a whole drawer full of these.
I have one pair.
BUT...if you wait long enough...someone will come up with another, sometimes better idea. (Since I am the copycat queen, you can be assured that it won't be me.)
And, along came...Pixel Rise socks.
Unlike fair isle---where you need a 'plan', you can pretty much use any yarn and get something that isn't too ugly.
The pattern is written for toe-up socks with an afterthought heel; you can tell I'm ignoring the toe-up part; the afterthought heel? I'll make that call when I get there. But the patterning is a great way to use up yarn that most organized people would have trashed after their original project was complete.
I actually think they're pretty cute.
Freddy thinks so, too.
(eep!...to think he almost missed this photo shoot!)
That's such a cute pattern! I always think that I'll get around to knitting up scrappy socks from all my leftovers, but I haven't done it yet :P

Ooohhh, I love them! I've long had a plan to do a stack of mismatched fraternals too but haven't gotten around to it. I'm thoroughly enjoying knitting my Nether Garments out of whatever's left after I put my sock leftovers into the blanket, tho. I like to keep knitting a yarn until there's like an inch left. Tossing anything more just feels wasteful.

yep. an inch is about all i can part with too!!!

I love those first socks! They're delightfully wacky! :) I save all my leftovers too, and they've definitely come in handy.

The colours suit Freddy pretty well actually. Surely he needs a new jumper this year??

I love those socks! Why ,oh why would anyone throw away left over yarn? So many socks and little projects can be had of them...You go Girl!!!!!

The one I made him last year has been worn ONCE....he runs when he sees it. I never thought he just didn't like the colours!!! Brilliant!

Very clever pattern for using up scraps! I've been putting all my scraps towards my beekeepers quilt, but by now I might have more tiny balls of yarns lying around than I actually have hexipuffs. Hmmm, I should get on top of that!

What a great idea. I keep all scraps, because I might need them.

I'm beginning to think that the best reason to knit socks is so you can play around with the leftovers. I just love your fraternal socks!

I love saving scraps for swatching and trying out new techniques - it's just too painful to throw them away!

I think they look very good! I like this use for scraps better than a blanket. Looks terrific and I can imagine how good it feels to wear the too.

Great socks. I just made a pair of ankle socks from scrap yarn Thank you for sharing the link to the Pixel Rise Socks. They look like fun too. I too save most scraps and have the most creating with them.
