Fresh off the needles....the last big-foot-man-socks of the season. Another close call as you can see. Luckily, I decided to make these fraternal/not identical socks.
Lots of stockinette means lots of reading; I was able to make it half-way through The Art of Fielding by Chad Harback before running out of sock. Why did I think this had something to do with Henry Fielding? It's been setting on my shelf since summer. Had I known it was a BASEBALL book !!!!! I would have grabbed it much sooner. (I'm really missing baseball season. Only 106 days to opening night...107 days til traditional opening day with the Reds; this year it just happens to coincide with Square Root Day, which I'm sure we'll all be also celebrating, right?)
Anyway, the socks are finished, but the book is not. I'm enjoying it a lot, though. It was A New York Times Book Review Best Book of the Year (2011), Best Book of September 2011 at Amazon and later awarded Amazon's Best Book of the Year, and was short listed for the Guardian First Book award. It's much more than a baseball book. It's a fun, easy read about friends, relationships, family, and love, and while I'm not yet finished with it, I can heartily recommend it.

I think I might need to try sock knitting in the new year. Have not heard of that book but it is on my list now!

yay for another pair of socks off the needles and they look identical to me!! I'm thinking of knitting more gifts but officially I'm done with what I set out to do.

Congrats for one more pair of socks off the needles!! I can't still figure out the art of simultaneous reading and knitting!

Very nice socks. This last pair I'm knitting is for my big-footed nephew. This one may take a while....

Stephanie, do you think my 22 year old baseball loving son would like this book? I know you said it is more than just a baseball book so I wonder?

I've just caught up with your last four or five posts and I'm in awe. You've been hair-straight-back knitting this month. You've finished more projects in time for Christmas than I would have dared even start for Christmas 2016. My own pair of man socks is stalled for lack of opportunity to work on them when my dear husband isn't around: they're supposed to be a surprise. I've been forced to bring them to work so I can power-knit during my lunch hour. The countdown continues.

you must remember, that my hubby is totally oblivious to everything I knit (although I WAS surprised that he commented when he thought some socks were too small.....hmmmm, maybe not quite as oblivious as I'd like to think!!!)

Always nice to meet other knitters who also read while knitting. It's the best combination!

You are a marvel to be able to finish multiple big-foot man socks in one season! My big-footed hubby has been waiting many years for his. Do you take sock commissions, LOL?!?

Yay for finishing the last big-foot-man socks!

i love the color of the big man foot socks. And it makes complete sense why you miss baseball so much. It goes hand in hand with good knitting, especially sock knitting. I'm just sayin' ...

Those are great socks. I would be VERY interested to know what you think of the book. We read it last year for book club and I did not like it one bit. I'm not a baseball fan but was looking forward to learning a bit about baseball and hoping it would have a good story. I thought the writing was terrible and none of the characters were fleshed out well. So that's my story :-) and I'd really like to know your thoughts especially since you are a baseball fan.

I actually loved the book.....the baseball part seemed just to be the mechanism for the characters to interact; could have been any team sport. (I already see some of the 'team' development/dedication with my grandsons...didn't think this would start quite so early!!!). I would have liked to see more baseball.....and more of the 'art of fielding'...but I liked the characters. Thought the daughter was a bit weak....but maybe she was simply a 'weak' personality! Somewhere I think I read that this was being considered for a movie, but haven't seen anything recently. ???? It would be interesting to see how it was developed for the screen.
