The head knitting elf? Yes, that would be me.
DIL's socks are still awaiting the extra skein to be delivered. Not worried.
Sara was working on this pattern and I HAD to make it. Gauge? Who needs to do a gauge? (This is the person who is 'affectionately' known as the gauge nazi.) I got this far and decided it was knitting to little person size instead of big person size.
Set it aside. Cast on again.
Much better. Not the colours I would have chosen, but it's what was on hand. (This yarn was supposed to be these socks. I might have enough left over to still make them. Fingers crossed. It would look better in those socks than it does in this hat.)
While knitting the worsted wt version, I thought of a little person who needs this one. (Not the little one in the picture, although don't tell him. He's sort of bonded with this project.) All is not lost.
And then, I saw Donna working with this yarn...
Hubby had a fit over it. (eep. Another pair of BIG socks...for the Christmas party next week???) I cast on the usual 72 stitches I use for his socks and was whirling away (like those whirling dervishes) when he commented that 'those are awfully skinny socks, aren't they?' Well, darn. Yes, they are. (obviously, he was not willing for them to be come MY socks.) Surely 80 stitches will be adequate.
Who has time for a gauge?
Argh! :)

Oh Freddy... Always warms my heart!

what an awesome hat but how annoying that it came too small...but you finished. You must have been knitting like a dervish. Those socks are going to look so Christmasy.
Happy knitting.

I love that Jacquard Heritage sock yarn, too, but I do think it is thin for a sock-weight yarn. Very pretty, though!
I like to have all my gift knitting done by Thanksgiving -- didn't get there this year! My new deadline is December 10.

I like both colorways for the Star Wars hats, especially the unfinished one. I went down a couple of needle sizes for mine (which I am still not finished with!) and it fits my head perfectly even though it is for a 5 yo. He can grow into it and wear it out!

Go go go! You can do it. Already so much awesome Christmas knitting accomplished - you have one lucky family.

Poor head Elf! The work is never ending right. I always think gauge is overrated until things like this happen to me. But I never learn.
Despite the issues- those are some beautiful projects!

I saw that hat pattern on ravelry and I think my daughter would like it, but I resisted for now. Lovely lovely knitting. And your husband likes holiday socks?? how nice is that?? I think you should have made them for yourself, but that's me.

You are one busy elf! I think PapaGeek should let you have the holiday sock, they would be perfect for you.

I never knew anything about gauge before I started seriously knitting...

Who does have time for gauge I wonder? Knitters are very busy people you know! Freddy looks super pleased with the project :)

Resistance is futile - glad you just bought that beautiful Christmas yarn! I resist the gauge thing too. Why are we so stubborn?

I can't resist this holiday yarn. I'm trying so hard, but then ... I just found out my LYS carries it. Oh boy ...

Gauge shmague. won't it fit someone's head? I know I don't have time to finish another pair of socks with my work schedule but oh golly I want that yarn. Like sheesh Christmas, I'll take Coal in my stocking if I can have that yarn. ha!

Ohhh, love that hat pattern! It looks great in both colorways. I might have to whip one up for my little nephew who loves Star Wars. That holiday yarn is pretty awesome as well. Maybe the head knitting elf will have time to make herself one too!
