1/2 pair of bedroom/dorm socks for my DIL. She requested them, but boy, is she ever going to be surprised. This year, they might actually fit the way handknit socks are supposed to fit. For some reason, it wasn't until this summer that I discovered that like my son...she has rather large feet. Her past Christmas socks (and she has received many--thank goodness socks stretch), were knit to fit me or my daughter. In my mind, everyone wears the same size I do.....I think this is sort of like---everyone is also my age? Go figure.
Of course, I ran out of yarn. (I bought enough to make her socks MY size! GRRRRR. I'm a very slow learner sometimes.) I'll be lacking about 2", but I'm knitting on and will only have those few inches left to do when the yarn arrives. It's my plan. I'm sticking to it. (I have to....that's the Christmas knitting schedule and I'm not wavering.)
I started reading Geraldine Brooks' latest book about King David, The Secret Chord. I very much like the first couple chapters. I'm in a new book club and this is January's read.
Unlike my knitting, I'm not cramming.
What, we are all the same size and the same age? Well that's a bummer ;)
Happy knitting my dear friend.

It is all your fault. I hold you entirely responsible...
I have just downloaded a cowl pattern from ravelry, ordered some of those flashy carbon fibre circulars with the steel tips and dug some yarn out of the stash, assuming the moths didn't get to it ahead of me. First project in over 25 years...

Ooh I didn't realize Geraldine had a new book out. Can't wait to read it! Is it good?

I think it would make the life of a knitter so much easier if everyone could just be the same size, not just feet but everything! Pretty sure I would jumpers as a gift then..

It always amazes me when socks fit. Ok, I've only made on pair that fit. The other was hopelessly big an are being worn as slippers.

I want to read that book someday. In paperback. I have my formula for each member of the family for fitted socks memorized. I think it's so nice you are knitting socks for your dil and that she is knit worthy :)

I do the same thing when knitting socks for my nephew. He is my biggest sock wearing fan but he has some pretty big feet! Many have been passed to his sister because I made them way too small.

Haha! I have a tendency to knit gift socks in my size as well. Now I do this weird thing where they are ONE size larger. Which is better than one size smaller I suppose. ha! Here's to exactitude ;)

You are so sweet to be knitting all those gift socks for people. I am still working on figuring out how to make a sock to fit me, let along other people! I am chugging along with some knitted gifts and think I should hammer out a definite schedule too! :)

Good for you keeping on even though you're waiting for more yarn. One time I read that people tend to knit or crochet faster when they know they're running out of yarn, as if that makes them use less of it, I guess? I don't know why, but I know I've done it too.

Out of yarn... that has go to be every knitters sad moment... :( So glad you're able to get more yarn, though to complete the socks!! Hank knitted socks for Chrismas--has got to be the best gift! Wow you're reading January's read already... I admire the git-er-done! ((HUGS))

Love your sense of humor, Steph...my tendency in knitting is to go small. Maybe it's a perception thing, I don't know. I always think my knits look like they'll be too big, but they either wind up fitting or are on the snug side. I'm doing better these days with that, thankfully! :)

I know exactly what you mean about the 'our age' thing. I often say that without thinking. I just don't look at myself and forget that I've aged. love the yarn colour...gorgeous socks.

Knitting gift socks is truly a tricky business. I have a hard enough time trying to knit one for myself :) Love that blue!
