A couple months ago my daughter and I decided to join some other artists and have a table in a local craft shop during Small Business Saturday. A friend at work this morning commented that I really haven't talked much about it.
When you knit a headband...
you can talk about it being in local school colours (or Univ of Ky colours)...
or about how it's knit in your favorite grey...
but, honestly, what do you say about
a whole bowl full?
Or a basket FULL of mini-stockings?
We have enough ornaments and stitch markers to fill a Christmas tree..
with some baby hats for tree-toppers (there are at least 6 more candy striped hats buried somewhere in the pile of stuff)...
I have piles of purses and sweaters and scarves and shawls and mitts and hats...many shop models from the days when I owned a knit shop. My daughter has really cute chunky cowls and mugs with cozies and facecloths. No way will it all fit on a 6 foot table!
The first 'something' you make is cute...the second still makes you happy, but after you start mass producing you do sort of lose the love for the project. And the pattern rewrites to avoid copyright infringement is not a barrel of laughs, either. I guess that's the reason I've been rather quiet about all the elving that's been going on.
Working with her on this has been the greatest gift. And knowing that we'll be spending an entire day together on Saturday is priceless.
And-----if things don't sell...
we have enough Christmas gifts for the next 5 years!!
Make that 10.
(vintage ornaments skewered on a knitting needle, what else?)
If you are in the Paducah area on Saturday, do plan to stop by Ephemera on 9th Street between 10 and 5. We'll be there knitting.
I was so looking forward to this event! Unfortuately I must attend a memorial service out of town :(

So I guess I need to get on the ball putting tags on things! I do like the blue and white headband. You need to make more of those!!

The handcrafted items look great. You are so ambitious. And yes, a day with your daughter is the best. Have fun.

I had thought I would be passing through Paducah, today, on my way to Missouri, but Thanksgiving was cancelled. I'm thankful for that, but it would have been fun to beg you to meet up at the quilt museum!
Good luck with sales on Saturday; those hats and stockings are the cutest.

Oh my goodness! That would have been awesome! Maybe we can make that happen sometime! (Hoping the cancelling of Thanksgiving wasn't for a bad reason, though)

I hope you make lots and lots and lots of money, so you can buy more yarn and knit more stuff :)

Sounds like you are going to have even more fun on Saturday.

Steph! My daughter and I have had a table at the local highschool the Saturday following Thanksgiving for the past I don't know how many years, and this year we decided to let it go. She's a bit sad we aren't doing it (will miss spending the day behind the table chatting, for sure), but I'm so relieved. Maybe we'll pick it back up next year. I have bins filled with what would've been on the table...hope you sell tons! You used to own a knit shop??? One of my "someday" dreams...
Happy Thanksgiving! xo Lisa :)

Ohhhh, it all looks so fabulous! Wish I was local to you. Can't believe that all of this knitting and crafting was happening behind the scenes. You are amazing!
