The Lori Shawl, designed by Carrie Bostick Hoge, is one of several designs in her latest Madder Anthology 2 that I love. I seem to have a somewhat unsung love affair with garter stitch, and this asymmetrical garter shawl has a simplicity and classic look that I know will be worn a lot. Plus, it has proven already to be the perfect, mindless travel project that I'll be sad to see end.
I'm finishing up the last couple discs of Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln. The real story didn't start for a couple discs...after which the pace picked up a lot; history that reads like a thriller.
(FYI: A very similar book by respected historian David O. Stewart is the novel, The Lincoln Deception. It covers much of the same information on the assassination, but 'he constructs a plausible version of history that works as both fiction and speculative inquiry' involving the role that Stanton and the Sons of Liberty could have played in the conspiracy. If you are a conspiracy fanatic, I think you would enjoy this fictionalized version as well.)
The White Queen was the last of the 'beach books' in my pile...and I just started it---without a beach. (bummer) Several people commented that this was their favorite Philippa Gregory book when I talked about The Other Queen. I'm looking forward to a good read!
Joining Ginny for yarnalong!
I haven't read any of Bill O'Reilly's books, but I did give my hubby his Killing Patton for some holiday a while back (when it came out, likely). Dan enjoyed it and wants to read his others. I did watch Killing Kennedy which was made into a movie with Rob Lowe as the president and liked it. Happy garter stitch knitting! :)

you know I LOVE the garter stitch, the gray and the white contrast!! A beach read without the beach will remind you of your beach vacation :)

How did my paper on Dr. Mudd play into "killing Lincoln"?

That's going to be such a fantastic shawl! I love garter stitch, especially in neutrals :)

Your shawl to be looks great already, I love it! Hope to see the photos when it is finished, although you like to keep working on the shawl for a while :)

I love garter stitch mostly because it is a mindless nit that I can do anywhere and not worry about making a mistake!

I am loving garter stitch lately myself. All my shawls lately have been garter stitch. I didn't read Killing Lincoln but we gave it to my dad for Christmas and he loved it.

Hi again Steph! Yes - we will be on the Cape (in Chatham) on Aug 2-4. I'll message you on Ravelry and we can chat! Hopefully you may be there around that time.

As you said to me, you can't go wrong with garter stitch! Or grey :)
I think I'm going to cast on the Spighe di Grano by the way.

I discovered Philippa Gregory several years ago and couldn't get enough of her books. They are fantastic reads and totally pull you into the story. The first one I read was The Queen's Fool and really enjoyed it.

Lovely knitting! The garter stitch is so lovely in it's simplicity!

*I* am in love with your shawl! Oh my but it will be so wearable. I wish I had the right yarn to cast one on--but oh wait! I am committed to finishing up some wips this summer. I have never read any Phillipa Gregory, but you are convincing me to check her out.

I like to know what people's favorite books are for an author. Thank you for sharing. I have put Twinleaf on the back burner while I finish a sock. But you've got another lovely pattern going. I went to look at the ravelry details and kinda choked when I read size 2 needles. holy hotpants that size should be reserved for socks right? Enjoy your knit. Looking forward to your progress and a book (or two) review.

Ooh I like your wool colours. I fancy reading one of her books (also heard good things) but I'm not fussed on stories set that far back in time usually - I prefer my history firmly in the 20th century! I think I'll add it to the list anyway :)

I think that would have been my first choice, but like I said----can't go wrong with either!!! Just cast on Liason, a cowl....in-----grey and white, what else?!?!?

Another beautiful knit on your needles Stephanie. You really do inspire me.
I am slowing making progress on my shawl, but I am in no hurry to finish since it will be months before it can be worn.

I am loving your shawl already! I haven't read a Phillipa Gregory book in ages, sounds like a perfect summer read even if you're not at the beach (but I'd be bummed too) xo

I love the gray and white in your shawl. Can't wait to see it finished.

Lovely shawl, I'm a big fan of garter stitch too and Carrie Bostock Hog's patterns. I've made a few and always go back for more. I love a good thriller but don't think I've ever read any true accounts. I must try some.
Phillipa Gregory's, The White Queen was serialised on television recently and well done, I don't know how true to the book it was. I'm sure I've seen it around the house so must give that one ago too sometime.
I know what to do with the black bananas in the freezer now...
