family vacation to the beach....
I'm packed.
* * * * * * * * *
Books
- The White Queen by Philippa Gregory (the story of Elizabeth Woodville, who secretly married the newly crowned Edward IV; her boys were the lost princes in the Tower of London, a mystery that has never been solved.)
- Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott I love everything Anne Lamott writes, and this one has escaped me up to now
- Madame Picasso by Anne Girard Paris and Picasso in the early 1900s. What's not to like?
- The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Many many many summers ago I spent beach time with this book and I remember exactly zero (nada) about it. It was included on Time 's 2005 list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923 and it was named by Modern Library and its readers as one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. In 2003, it was listed at #15 on theBBC's survey The Big Read. I'm going to re-read it because it's good for me.
Will I read them all? HA! Of course not! But, I need choices!!!
Knitting
- Little Boy Blue (the white version) only needs two more skeins knit in; it might be done before we leave. Ordinarily, I wouldn't touch Red Heart anything (I know. I'm a yarn snob; I hope you don't hold that against me.) But this acrylic with a touch of wool really isn't awful. It's for a first-time, working, non-knitting, mom-to-be who really doesn't need me putting a guilt trip on her about hand washing a blanket. I might actually knit with this stuff again. I might.
- Banana Leaf shawl may appear to have been neglected lately, but it has really just been resting up for vacation.
- Mont Royal test knit socks
- Two balls of fixation for some August birthday socks.
- yarn for this or this or maybe this
Spiral shell was in the pile....but then I knit it. oops.
:) I am in the same boat on Catcher in the Rye...I read it in high school and couldn't tell you a thing about it...along with The Giver, Once and Future King, and multiple other classics! Also, love the shell! Perfect (pre)beach knit! And the options for your last yarn, I don't know which I would pick, they are all so perfect, maybe I would knit all three and write the longest sentence ever. Have a wonderful trip!

I am thrilled that you are headed to the beach and it looks like you are very well prepared on both the knitting and reading fronts. Have a great time and remember sunscreen!

Happy Birthday and safe travels. The line I most remember from Catcher in the Rye is beginning with his family and "all that david copperfield kind of crap" -- it is on my bookshelf, perhaps I'll pull it out this summer.

You have peaked my curiosity. I don't remember a lot about "Catcher in the Rye" either. A lot of books have passed through my brain and I would hate to take a test on them. Have fun at the beach and have a great birthday!!

Have a really lovely vacation!! I love that shell - would like to make it for a friend of mind - but all the sewing up etc, throws me.... I've got Meridian on my "to be bought" list!

I really love that pattern.....I'm still undecided which I'll make! I'm going to take that as one vote for Meridian!

I love how you have your packing priorities straight. Interesting books and pretty yarn. I haven't read The Catcher in the Rye yet but seeing it on all of those "best of" lists is making me curious. Have a fun trip to the beach!

That spiral shell is fantastic, love it!
Your holiday packing makes me laugh - my own looks very similar, all knitting and books, even though I rarely get round to anything like reading or knitting when we go away!
Have a great vacation!!

Great reading list. The White Queen was serialised on television recently, fascinating story. I loved Catcher in the Rye when I read it years ago, it's time I re-read it too it's probably very different than I remember.
Have a great holiday...what fun the whole family.
