Wheaten is still on my needles; it's still an enjoyable knit. It takes 5 skeins, and I'm only on the second one, so I'm sure I'll lose the love before it's finished. For now, I'm happy.
My book this week is a real goodie! What the Fork are you eating? by Stefanie Sacks (culinary nutritionist, certified chef, MS in nutrition from Columbia University, educator, speaker, consultant, and host of the radio show Stirring the Pot.) She very clearly explains all the additives in our food....which ones are harmful, how to avoid the worst. She's non-judgmental, inspirational, and you come away feeling.....hey, I can do this! I thought I did pretty well in the 'clean eating' department. This book has shown me how I can do sooooo much better. She walks you shelf by shelf through your refrigerator and your pantry, and offers appealing recipes to try. An interesting appendix is included that lists common foods with 'their better halves'.
This is (obviously) a library book, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy one.
Pass a slice of home-made, preservative-free (organic), whole grain (wheaten!!) bread, please. (Love when my knitting and food match!)
(Victorian bread fork.)
joining Ginny for yarnalong.
I think I need to read that book, it sounds like something I would really love. You always find the best books! Now, could I please have a slice of that bread with butter ;)

Wheaten on the needles and the wheat-y bread... what a great pairing! ;o) That's my kind of book-going to have to look out for that one--thanks for the tip! We could all probably do better in the food/forkage department, Happy Day ((HUGS))

I'm going to look for that book, sounds intriguing. I tweak our food here and there for the better but then sometimes I slip and cheat. Never a good idea. Love your Wheaten :)

Just placed this book on hold at my local library! Your Wheaten is looking fantastic! Hope you enjoy this knit as much when you get to the fifth skein!

Thank you for the book recommendation. I am always trying to find good books on nutrition, there is so much information out there, it gets confusing sometimes. Right now I am reading "China Study". Pretty impressive!

I'll bet parts of it have blown your mind about what's really in the food we eat right? I've been trying to improve my clean eating too (and this book is going on my library list now!) and trying to cut out additives.....me personally I'm trying to cut out all the sneaky animal product additives they add to foods where you wouldn't expect them (like enzymes in bread). Every little helps

That book sounds like a must! They definitely won't have it at my local library so to Amazon i go.
Hope you don't fall out of love with your knitting, it's very pretty.

That book sounds like a good read, and it sounds like the author has a nice way of presenting the information.

Ooops! I just ordered a box of my favorite ramen instant noodles from Amazon, so I can definitely use help in the clean eating department. I wonder if there is a healthy alternative to instant noodles? If so, I'm on board! Wheaten looks like such a relaxing winter knit.

My goodness you knit so fast Steph! Loving the color and texture. I am so reading that book - sounds like a goodie!

How boss is your Victorian bread fork? Did you make the bread yourself? What's your recipe?!? I bough myself, ahem I mean the boys got me a Kitchenaid dough hook for Christmas when I thought I might try to make bread.

Ohhh, wheaten! Looks like its going to be gorgeous and dreamy. Great review of your book, I'll keep my eyes open for it.

That looks like a great book. Clean eating is definitely the way to go, but easier said than done!

The book sounds very interesting. I try to be conscious of stuff that's been added to food, but it is so damn hard to make sense out of all those labels.
