These broken seed stitch socks were going to be the solution to my bag of leftovers. Between this pattern and the scrappy socks vanilla pattern (just switching up odd colors willy-nilly)....I was going to blast through that bag. (ha!!!)
Do you have any idea how little yarn you actually use with these multi-colored socks?
So, I decided it was time for another life-long-never-ending-(although it eventually does)-scrappy blanket project. (Remember???....this is the person who has made !!3!! mitered square blankets.) Strips this time. Who-cares-how-wide strips. Narrow. Wide. Wider. Medium. Whatever I feel like. Whatever fits in the 'travel bag'. Maybe several started at the same time.
(Yes. That bag is FULL. Yes. I knit too much.)
Garter stitch. Miles and miles of it, which lucky for me is one 'pattern' I can knit while I read. (Probably the reason I knit so many 'vanilla' self-striping socks. Probably why there is a glut of leftovers.)
A friend just dropped off this book. I know nothing about it except she said it was fabulous. My yarn and I are ready.
And just for good measure, I started another pair of socks for my hubby that he doesn't need.
joining Ginny for yarnalong.
The purple and grey are so pretty together! I have way too many sock scraps left, too. Hopefully someday they will become a hexxipuffs quilt.

I swear Stephanie I don't think there is another soul on the planet that can knit as fast as you! Love it all, I always do :)

I would love to make a striped garter stitch blanket someday! Perfect on-the-go project.

Can you knit sox that are so thin that you can wear them without buying a size larger shoe? I have never had knitted sox. they seem so big!

How could I not be completely in love with this post? Chalked full of socks and lovely scrap projects. Swoon! :)

Haha! YOU knit too much?! I'm sure my husband wishes he had your husband's problem with more hand knit socks made that he doesn't need. Love your idea for a stripey blanket, can't wait to see how it turns out.

I LOVE the socks, gorgeous! And a scrappy blanket sounds awesome. I keep saying I am going to start one...but haven't yet. Maybe I should just get to it! I have a ton of leftover yarn, and could use a project that takes absolutely no thinking :-)

I adore the socks. Do you have a special way of connecting the new yarn so it doesn't' come undone. I love the socks and the blanket such great ideas!!!

Lovely socks. I'm excited to see the blanket when it's finished.

I love the socks for hubby. Scrap blankets are awesome. One day I will finish my sock yarn blanket. And how do you read a book while knitting? I can read on my iPad while doing garter or simple stockinette but not a regular paperback book.

I would love to see just how many WIPs you have....I'm always amazed that you can work on more than one project at a time. I'm attempting two at the moment and resisting the urge to start a new blanket project!

Love the sock color combo! Looks like an expensive "custom" color!

I use a big (BIG!!!!) clip to clip the pages open!!!

I don't like any kind of knots on my socks (even if I can hide them in a pattern); and our socks get hard use....so I'm afraid of a spit/splice. I usually hold the end of one skein and the beginning of the new one together for several (sometimes more than several!!) stitches. You would think this would create something bulky, but promise----it's totally invisible (both to my feet and my eyes!!!)

Oh my, so many projects! I love the socks, but most of all I love the idea of a blanket made from stripes of various widths and left-over yarn. Such a good idea! I may have to do that sometime!

Thanks so much! I will try that!!

You've started the new year with an impressive array of finished things: you're an inspiration. Love those socks, very stylish, both pairs, and I really liked that bit of sashiko you finished and lined with that gorgeous lime green. Like you, I never have enough knitting bags to give every project its own. I too love the idea of your new striped blanket using all of your leftovers. Scrappy is my favourite modus operandi in knitting and in quilting. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Those socks are gorgeous! Great idea to use sock blockers in your photo shoot, too. Looking forward to seeing how your scrappy yarn blanket progresses. That is a tremendous amount of leftover yarn to play with!

beautiful socks and I think you have an endless supply of scrap yarn....I love the idea of strips of knitting instead of the mitering. However, I would not like to sew all those strips together, are you sewing or crocheting or knitting them together?
Posted by: karen | 01/29/2015 at 07:24 AM
???? too soon to tell. I think ???? I may just sew them, and crochet a border. I'm fickled, though....may change my mind!
Posted by: steph@woolythyme | 01/29/2015 at 08:23 AM
oh my, you make me laugh! :) I was wondering the same as Karen, but I guess I don't need to ask since your reply is right above my comment... Happy knitting!
