My daughter made a favorite things cowl last year. She whipped this thing up in no time flat....while mine lingered (and lingered).
I think hers turned out great; what you can't see is how extremely wonky the fair isle is. I think it would block out, but her knitting motto is...'whatever!' and in this case, she's right. Unblocked, it still looks good. Puckery....it's still great.
She was wearing it this weekend and I had immediate cowl-envy. It made me think about mine that's been in hibernation since I got really really bored with it, tried to finish it fast with assorted stripes...
and pretty much ruined the look and the whole purpose of a 'favorite things' cowl. Yesterday morning I ripped out the stripes.
Much better. I'm not quite to the half-way point, but it might actually get finished this time. Mine is wonky and puckery.
Whatever.
I'm going to have to figure out how to add some books to the mix, because they rank pretty high on the 'favorite things' list. And to be sort of timely, they might have to be Agatha Christie ones. For some reason, I'm still on the kick with her mysteries. Just finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. WHOA! I did NOT see that ending coming!! I just picked up Ordeal by Innocence, another that the Queen of Mystery considered among her personal favorites.* Haven't even opened the front cover. I'll let you know.
Joining with Ginny for Yarnalong. Wonder how to put that on my scarf, too. Truly, one of my favorite things!!!!
Agatha's personal favorites include:
Murder on the Orient Express
The Moving Finger
And Then There were None
Towards Zero
Crooked House
A Murder is Announced
Endless Night
Murder of Roger Ackroyd
her cowl is gorgeous! I like her motto though.... hey, if it works why bother. You'll get yours finished in no time!

Your daughter' scowl is gorgeous! Can't wait to see yours!

I think I like your beautiful daughter's motto, whatever is right and her scarf shows it, it's great!
Why not take the yarn along symbol and put it on your scarf? Just map it out on graph paper first to get a pattern.

gosh! you were not kidding, that is one gorgeous cowl! Tell her so :) I think you need to start cracking on yours, you know to get it done and all of that.

Do you have to chart all your favorite things or are there charts already made? I wish there was an easy way to turn something into a graph!
I love the colors and the idea, but I think I would love it better blocked. :-) I used to be a "whatever" person until I saw the difference blocking makes---even in the way it feels wearing it.

I'm finding some charts (pinterest is an amazing source!) but i'm 'winging' some, too, and charting some myself. I'm with you.....I'm sure I WILL block mine...I'm grabbing too many different weights yarn and I'm going to need to even it out a bit. Don't know where Rob gets her free-spirit-knitting from.....not ME!

Love your "whatever" attitude - especially when "whatever" is referring to something that is absolutely gorgeous - wow! I love them both. Nice to see a few of my own favourite Christie picks on your list, happy reading to you :)

Gorgeous cowl- love all the colors and fun pattern!

What a cool cowl! Your daughter sounds like me. I just shrug and keep going and it usually works itself out. I'd rather have it done then perfect and never complete since i have to keep ripping it out!

Exactly..... whatever!
It really is going to be a work of art when it is finished. And your daughter's looks awesome. That would inspire me too!

I love that cowl pattern!! Yours looks great and has me wanting to cast on!!

I started mine a couple years ago and it has stalled out as well! Now you've given me encouragement!

The idea of a favourite things cowl is so awesome, why haven't I started one yet? It's so cool that each one is different and personal, and if it's puckery then that just adds to the personal touch!

I'm awed by the knitting you and your daughter have done on these scarves! I can't wait to see your finished knit, and I'm proud of you for ripping back and doing it "right!" ;)

I took a quick look on Ravelry and there are patterns based on Agatha Christie novels, don't know if any of them would work for the cowl, take a look. My Favorite Things Cowl is also in hiatus, I am taking a look at it to see if I want to continue on in the same direction, which makes some of the motifs present upside down. I don't know if I would wear it wrapped around my neck,I think it would be too thick, the cowl I mean, though my neck is a lot thicker than it used to be! LOL

Your daughter's cowl is gorgeous and yours is much better without the stripes.

I have just finished a crochet cowl and I know that you will love yours when it is done! Can I recommend some of the Agatha Christie Miss Marple books, especially the 4.50 from Paddington and Sleeping Murder. They are my all time favourites! xx

thanks! I'm adding them to my 'list'.....i haven't dipped into any Miss Marple on this 'go-round'....:)

Your daughter's cowl is great looking! No wonder you were inspired to drag yours out again.
I love yours and can't wait to see it finished.
I'm a fan of the winging it and "whatever" attitude in knitting as well.
:)
