The Christmas cowl (which looks far more like a fall cowl!) was as enjoyable a knit as I anticipated. (Take that to mean hours of mindless garter stitch, which I know isn't everyone's idea of a romp in the park.) I ended up using just three of the little odd balls left from socks, but used them totally up. There is something awfully satisfying about that, isn't there?
This is a pattern I've used and adjusted and rearranged several times....nothing fancy or unusual about it. When I bought it, I wondered at the time----why? It looked so straight forward, surely I could knit it without the help of a written pattern. But, I've probably knit this little thing more times than any other pattern (save my 'vanilla socks' pattern), so I certainly have gotten more than $3.50 worth of enjoyment from it!!!
The only thing wrong with this? It really IS a Christmas gift, so I really can't wear it the rest of the fall season and gift it---slightly used---in December. (can I???)
I really can't.
Is it already that time of the year? Can't believe you have already one (lovely by the way!) gift done!
I really need to begin to think about Christmas..... I guess I'm going to be late (as usual)

I am impressed that you have started on Christmas. Very pretty!

Pretty! How much yardage do you think it took? I was wondering about buying the pattern, but the yardage noted was more than I could cobble together from my leftovers.

No, you can't wear it, put it away, it's a gift. Although you know, you could keep it and just knit another one for a gift :)

No you can't wear it because then I would know all about it:)))) beautiful!

Maybe you can just sneak in a little wear of the cowl here and there? The recipient will never notice ;)
Ok I guess you can't wear it, I admire your self control for making something so pretty so well in advance, and then having the strength to already wrap it and put it away.

lovely! I started the Christmas knitting but thankfully my list is short. Love the cowl and the using up of odds and ends, always a crowd pleaser.

No one would mind receiving that "slightly used" cowl! It is beautiful!

Hahaha! So clever of you to wrap it up to avoid temptation, your cowl is so pretty I would be tempted to get a few "test" wears in - just to make sure it's good enough to give away - right? ;) xo

That is a great go-to pattern. I really love that you used three leftover skeins of sock yarn. I have bunches of little left overs that might work nicely in a project like this! It's too bad you aren't able to wear it around, but I'm sure the recipient will make up for lost time once the gift is given.

So cute! Love the colors. It's always great to use leftover yarn, too!

LOL! But, then again... you could make ANOTHER Christmas one. ;) I thought when I first saw the photo it was a Color Affection. It is beautiful, Steph.
The Fox Paws... craziness. Pure craziness... and, of course, I love that. ;) blessings ~ tanna

I love the cowl! Such great colors. I might be real tempted to use that a couple of times. You have great restraint Steph!

Yet another FO from the most prolific knitter I know! It looks beautiful and whoever will receive it is very lucky indeed!

It's lovely and sometimes those little simple projects are the most satisfying to knit. Especially when you can check a name off the Christmas list. Your gift wrapping skills are enviable!
