In an effort to once again coordinate my knitting with my book cover (just kidding), I cast on another pew shawl for our church needlearts ministry. It's a boring, uninspiring 3 x 3 double moss pattern, using large(r) needles that I pretty much despise. The one saving grace is that I will be able to knit and read, but since I just started both, it's too soon to give a book review. (The shawl I've knit before. The above review on it stands.)
I finished listening to City of Thieves by David Benioff, and really enjoyed it. Two unlikely characters, a young Russian deserter and a younger Jewish looter, are thrown together in worn-torn Leningrad during WWII and given the impossible task of finding a dozen eggs for the Colonel's daughter's wedding in exchange for their lives. It's an adventure story, a coming of age story, but most of all a story of friendship.

That books sounds really good. I'm going to put it in my "to read" queue.

*DROOL*... the color of that yarn is simply scrumptious. At least the color may lift the knitting time. And the book maybe too. I'm a big Edith Wharton fan. Books like this--The Age of Desire--usually have me on the fence, though. So I'll be curious what you think of this one. Happy reading & stitching :o) ((HUGS))

Steph, check out the Recipe for a Textured Shawl, you might like it. Life is too short to knit boring patterns!
I decided to wait on the Hitofude cardigan, maybe after the wedding, yes, after the wedding.

I have heard of the City of Thieves but haven't read it. It sounds like a good read! The color of the yarn reminds me of fall! :)

I do love the color of the yarn!! I'm thinking of doing mine in a pattern from the Prayer Shawls Companion book. I wish I could read and knit at the same time the way you do!! Have a happy day!

The colour of the yarn is perfect for autumn - it's very pretty! Is this going to be a breather from the more complicated Hitofude?

Hopefully that gorgeous colour helps to make up for the boring pattern. Both my eldest and my husband enjoyed City of Thieves immensely, might have to pull it off the shelves for myself now that I've finished How To Catch a Frog... Hope your new book is a good read! xo

It's a beautiful color you've chosen for the shawl. And I'm not convinced you aren't matching it all on purpose ;)

I love the Matchy Matchy.

Ah love the matchiness of it all (is that even a word?). if you fancy a new shawl pattern, I have currently a giveaway on my blog you might be interested in (needle size 4mm - is that too large?)
