'Hardworking mariners deliver over 90% of all imports to this country. SCI (Seamens Church Institute) provides services to these men and women wherever they go. Take a closer look at what we do at seamenschurch.org.'
That's what is on the back of the tag that will go on each of these little hats. This is a campaign to bring awareness to the SCI and since my hometown is one of the few sites that is home to a Seamen's Church Institute, I just had to try to rally the knitting forces and see what we can do to blanket our town in mini knitted watchcaps.
The official blitz is to take place (nationwide) between Thanksgiving and New Years. Everyone can play! These little hats take about 15 minutes to make....won't it be fun to scatter them on wine bottles in local wine shops....or on olive oil bottles in groceries? Or hang them from trees or fences; or tie them on door knobs?
If you would like to yarn bomb your hometown with little hats, you can contact Paige Sato at [email protected] for tags. I'm sure she won't care if I post the little pattern below.

adorable!! While out and about I've seen hats of all sorts adorning wine bottles, who knew wine bottles needed knitting love?
Now I'm off to see what it's all about :)

What a great project! I have several patients who are retired mariners and I always love to hear their many stories of past travels. It is a very difficult way to make a living, especially dealing with loneliness & being away from family.

I'm going to try to make several of these soon. I just have to finish Evan's winter hat first.
