When I plan to go on vacation, the first thing I worry about is what knitting to take. Then--how much to take to get me through the whole trip. I can't seem to even think about packing clothes until the knitting thing is taken care of.
We spent the past week on Sanibel Island. It was a very very relaxing week full of shelling and beaching and boating and biking--and of course, there was ample knitting time! Fortunately, for once, I brought along enough to keep me busy, but for some reason, I kept changing my mind right up to the last minute. (As a result, I did better packing my knitting than I did packing clothes, but I made do!)
Vacation knitting (for me) has to be portable, not real quickly finished, and somewhat mindless so I can pretend to be sociable. The results......
This is my "vanilla socks" pattern, knit with Paton's Kroy in ragg green--cast on 64 stitches and go. They are really really close to being identical twins (as opposed to the fraternal mismatched socks I usually make). First time I've used the sock blockers--I like them!! These got me to Sanibel (there was a 3 hour ride to the airport in the morning!) and through Tuesday.
Dragon scales is one of the face clothes in Knitters Stash, knit using Hempathy. Done with it on Wednesday.
Almost Ovals by Anne Hanson knit with Sweet Georgia CashSilk Lace. This is the softest most beautiful yarn! Yummy. It was finished right after we arrived home on Saturday. (I had started this one way back in July, so it was about time it got some attention and got finished!)
It was a great vacation--and a pretty good knitting week. But I could have stayed at least another 3 days--I had yarn for another pair of socks with me!!
oh my those socks are awesome! just beautiful! it’s getting to be sock buying time around here, and i always dread it because wool socks are so expensive! the kids are REQUIRED to have wool at school....the teachers have a mantra ‘cotton is rotten’ that my kids are always singing around the house! they do get wet and frozen and yucky so i do ‘get it’!
anyway! these are lovely and in my next lifetime, before i have children, i will learn to knit! and your sanibel pics are awesome....i love sanibel!

Oh, I'd love to have a vacation with that much knitting time! I always pack up stuff to do on vacation and then my two kids never give me enough peace to get two rows done, much less two socks. They look great!

I think we are twins!!! I always pack my knitting first and make sure I have too much instead of not enough.....Your projects are all lovely! So productive while vacationing, go you :)
