A sweet little coat for a little turn of the century girl. The vintage pattern made me think a bit, doubt a bit, but in the end, proved to be just right. Early patterns were written in a single size. This was intended for a 7-8 year old girl. There is no gauge on the pattern, so I don't know if I ended up with the size intended...it looks like it would fit my 5 year old granddaughter perfectly, and she's not particularly tall for her age. (I guess our kids today are being super-sized along with our meals!)
I was debating what kind of buttons would be appropriate, when I stumbled on Kate Davis' covered-button tutorial. I've made traditional Dorset buttons before, but had never done a covered 'Dorset' button. I think it was the right 'look'.
I was getting ready to send it off, when someone posted she had just 'translated' the pattern for the hat that goes with this coat. I had left over yarn. How could I refuse?
NOW, it's time to send it off.
Sorry about the dog hair.
