on the needles, off the needles....yarnalong and WIP Wednesday + last day of the giveaway
Off the needles are the leafy fingerless mitts. I dragged out the rustling leaf beret to see if they were close enough in color to be worn together....and discovered....YIKES! That little ball of 'something-left-over-from-something' must be the Blue Lobster Bugga left over from the beret. Two 'blue-leafed' projects, made out of the same blue yarn. I would so much rather be lucky than good.
I've been telling every one I see (whether they knit or not) what a great little pattern this is. It knits up rather quickly. It uses surprisingly little yarn, and it's just darn cute. (Of course, the real pattern is for fingerless GLOVES--it would be considerably more fiddle-y if you did that, but I'm quite happy with the mitts.)
On the needles: Jon's sweater, my first official Christmas present being knit for my always-cold husband (whose name is NOT Jon...that's the name of the pattern). I'm so out of my comfort zone on this...I'm knitting a worsted weight yarn to aran gauge on a size 8 needle. Ordinarily this would be a no-brainer....3-strikes, this project is OUT. I hate everything about this...the weight of the yarn, the needles that feel like I'm knitting with logs. No. Wait. I really am being rather unfair. It's grey. I love the color. It incorporates a 'horizontal stitch' which I've never done before; I like learning something new. And PapaGeek will love this sweater---and I love him, so the positives actually outweigh the negatives. I'll just be really glad to have this done, wrapped, and ready to put under the tree.
Reading....Kindred. A quarterly ad-free publication with recipes, photographs, stories, interviews, and practical tips from an international community. I subscribe to very few magazines, but I'm adding this one to my list.
